A 17-year-old girl received a fine from SNCF, she did not have a valid ID, although she held a Pass Rail. On the social network X, the fine caused a scandal and the railway company plans to cancel it.

The people's court has ruled. Due to the controversy created on social networks, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), the fine imposed on the teenager should be cancelled.

A fine for a scan

During a check on the train, the young girl who was traveling between Lyon and Avignon, was only able to present a scan of her identity document, which earned her the fine, reports Le Parisien.

Her father, Samuel Peltier, director France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, posted the photo of the fine on his X account and shared his discontent: “Shame on the @SNCFVoyageurs !”.

He explains the situation in a post that has reached nearly 4 million views in just one day. “A ticket to a 17-year-old teenager with a Rail Pass on the pretext that she doesn't have her identity card even though she has the digital version! No problem at the outward inspection, but 140 euros on the return! Scandalous law of the inspectors! With SNCF, it's possible!", we can read.

"Thanks SNCF!"

He goes on to explain that his daughter was taking the train for the first time, thanks to her Pass Rail (a subscription at 49 euros per month, reserved for those under 27 and allowing unlimited travel on all TER and Intercités trains in France).

"Tickets at 0 euros but a fine of 140 euros… Thank you SNCF!!!”, he exclaims on X.

Contacted by our colleagues, the railway company stated that the matter was being resolved, but that “the conditions of the fine were justified”. “On the Pass Rail, an identity document is mandatory. The digital identity document has been accepted for some time now. But scans on the phone allow a lot of fraud", added the SNCF.
