MIAMI | Florida recorded 15 299 new cases of coronavirus in 24 hours, according to figures released Sunday, a record for an american State, so far held by the state of California.
The total issued Sunday by the department of Health of Florida represents almost an increase of one-half (47 %) compared to the number of new cases observed during the previous day.
The State of the extreme south-east of the United States has also experienced 45 new deaths from the coronavirus.
In five days, Florida has recorded 55 842 positive cases.
So far, the record of new cases in 24 hours in a State was the property of the California, with 11 694 announced Wednesday, followed by the State of New York, with 11 571 persons found positive on April 14.
The republican governor of Florida Ron DeSantis had decided to begin the phasing out of the confinement from 4 may, before most of the States in the country.
On Thursday, the director of the american Institute of infectious diseases, Anthony Fauci, has estimated publicly that Florida was out of the containment before, that all the indicators of public health does not justify it.
Ron DeSantis has disputed this diagnosis, claiming that its decision was based on the figures of contamination of the time.
At the end of June, the governor is back, and ordered the bars closed to try to limit the spread of the virus, but the numbers of contamination have continued to soar.
Ron DeSantis has so far refused to make mandatory the wearing of mask in Florida, considering that the decision was left up to the local communities.
