Ce vendredi 14 juin, Sète comme dans 200 autres villes en France, un rassemblement était organisé contre l’extrême droite et en soutien au Nouveau Front populaire.

The gathering to "form a popular front" against the extreme right this Friday June 14 in Sète brought together more than 700 people. The appeal was launched by around ten associations, unions and parties of left, the day after the RN's breakthrough in the European elections of June 9.

"We quickly agreed in Sète to organize this gathering, to tell the left-wing parties to unite but we did not imagine that the New Front popular would be established as quickly", confides Pierre Confavreux, representative of the LDH of Sète, responsible for ensuring united speech. This was reminiscent of tunes from 2002. "Now if we want there to be an alternative to the RN in the 2nd round which is not Macronie, we must that it be based on popular support and not just on parties", he adds. "The united lefts hold the historic opportunity to prevent the worst from happening", evoking the origins of creation of the party founded "in 1972 by neofascists and former collaborators and other members of the Waffen-SS". In the crowd, the socialist elected officials Hussein Bourgi, Sébastien Denaja, the rebellious MP Sylvain Carrière, the PCF candidate for the legislative elections Gabriel Blasco.

"Fed up with egos"

On the square, in a rather joyful atmosphere, many activists, as evidenced by the flags of the CGT, the CFDT, the PCF, France insoumise, Ecology the Greens and even of rebellious France, but also people, young and old, who came to express their fear of seeing Marine Le Pen's party come to power at the end of the legislative elections. With a message to the parties which display a common program. "I came because I’re really fed up with egos, confides to us this almost fifty-year-old who lives in Sète. Politicians need to understand that they are there for everyone and not for their own little career. Before adding& nbsp;: "It’s moving to see people here who are moving together for a common goal and more openness."

"We will be careful to ensure that they keep the program"

"The RN and its ideas, it’s not possible, says this 74-year-old woman, they hide from the social measures that they will not take, and the immigrants. I am in the world of culture, it There is a risk that the associations will no longer have funding. I am happy that there is a New Popular Front for a better future. "We are here to keep warm, to be together, testifies this other 47-year-old demonstrator. And to remind the New Popular Front and those who will be deputies that we will be careful to ensure that they stick to the program. Now I would have liked there to be a few more of us in the street this evening." The walk in the streets of Sète then took place with music, where the youngest did not shy away from the indestructible songs broadcast by the sound truck.
