The 37th edition of the Hérault Valley wine competition took place this Tuesday in Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian. More than 200 vintages passed the blind tasting test and 46 medals were awarded.

Pupils and taste buds concentrated to the extreme, this Tuesday morning, the 37th edition of the Hérault Valley wine competition took place in Saint-Saturnin, in an almost religious, auspicious silence. blind tasting of some 203 vintages from the Pays Cœur d’Hérault. And among the sixty knowledgeable tasters, Nathan Menou, sponsor of the edition and free spirit of the competition, will have fired from all angles, testing each of the vintages from 200 private cellars and cooperatives from 43 villages in the Valley.

A superb vintage for whites

Like a taste of coming back for this renowned taster, co-owner of the N°5 Wine bar*, who was already present during the 2023 edition. "This year, I was offered the position of sponsor with great freedom in the tasting. I was able, like last year, to access all the profiles , spin on the tables. We can really appreciate the evolution, the contrasts of vintages and the technical evolution". Report of the races : "on the reds, like last year, the technical profiles are quite heterogeneous. And this year, there is a superb vintage for the whites, there is really this side of identity that the prescribers are looking for. Which, however, is not obvious in an appellation which includes such a rich geological mosaic, with very different altitudes and exposures…"

A revolution in progress

Beyond the technique, the 2024 competition also highlights "a real revolution in the territory: The sandstones of Montpellier have obtained the AOC; white people are increasingly being highlighted; the rosés are more and more of an identity and the reds offer, through the grape varieties and the variety of places, a real diversity, a very interesting variety, égrène& ;nbsp;this figure in the wine world.

The results of the competition will be revealed in a few days, 46 medals will be awarded.
