Les faits ont eu lieu dans la nuit de mercredi 18 au jeudi 19 septembre, vers minuit, entre le rond-point des Prés d’Arènes à Montpellier et l’aire de péage de Florensac sur l’A9.

Presented at the immediate appearance hearing of the Montpellier judicial court, this Friday, September 20, the 27-year-old driver from Isère, at the origin of a 55 km chase on the A9 motorway, on the night of Wednesday 18 to Thursday 19 September, was sentenced to a heavy sentence.

Found guilty of charges of refusing to comply, driving without a license and damaging the property of others, this Martinérois (Saint-Martin-d’Hères) was sentenced to eighteen months in prison with a committal warrant.

He hits a toll barrier

Let us recall that that night, around midnight, he had been spotted by the national police, driving at excessive speed at the Près d’Arènes roundabout in Montpellier. Refusing to take the check, he accelerated even more, taking the A709 towards Béziers.

Arriving at the Saint-Jean-de-Védas toll, he hit an automatic barrier before continuing at full speed on the A9. It was only 55 km later, seeing that the police were still on his tail, that he complied by cutting off his engine at the Florensac rest area.

Identity theft

In this Peugeot 308 belonging to his cousin, the police also arrested that evening a 25-year-old New Montpellier native, born in Échirolles (38). As well as a 28-year-old Grenoble resident. The three were taken into custody.

While the first passenger was released due to no charges against him, investigators discovered that the second had assumed the identity of a third party. And for good reason, he was wanted by arrest warrant after being sentenced to three years in prison. Also brought before the court on Friday, he was sentenced to an additional eight months in prison for identity theft.
