72es Emmy awards: Who deserves a nomination?

72es prix Emmy: Qui mérite une nomination?

The nominations for the 72es Emmy awards will be announced Tuesday. Until this moment of truth, let’s take a look to the main categories in fiction to create the list of series that deserve to be finalists.

Best drama serial

Better Caul Saul (Netflix) is almost assured of a place in the sun. Its first four seasons have all been selected in previous editions of the gala, it is hard to see how the fifth could escape a mention.

Same thing for Succession. Aired last year on HBO, the second season has pushed this family saga to new heights.

Featuring a Jennifer Aniston especially in the shape, Morning Show (The morning) Apple TV+ should be able to sneak among the chosen, just like Poses, Stranger Things and Homeland, other favorites of Emmy.

Both of Netflix, Ozark and The Crown are also part of the forecasts of several specialist publications the us, including Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide. The Handmaid”s Tale (The handmaid’s tale), but it’s hard to understand why. This series is made as a parody of itself.

Quebec side, nothing is gained for Big Little Lies (Little secrets, big lies). Produced by Jean-Marc Vallée, the second season of the drama, five stars would have been more likely to get an appointment last year, if it had been eligible, of course. More than a year after its broadcast on HBO, the series is probably a distant memory for many voting members.

Nonetheless, we expect to see the names of Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep appear in the categories of interpretation. Alone, this slap in the face deserves all the awards.

Best comedy

The winner in this category by 2018, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has bent the bow to the excellent Fleabag in 2019. His selection is guaranteed this year.

The Academy would also like to recognize the superb course of two series that have left the antenna this spring : Modern Family (after 11 seasons), and The Good Place (after 4 seasons).

Cited last year, the comedy darling of the critics, Schitt”s Creek, should snag a second appointment in a row.

The members of the Academy will no doubt apologise, have – unjustly – ignored his first four seasons, which are available on the CBC Gem and Netflix, if you want to catch up your – inexcusable – delay.

The remaining places will be filled by “Curb Your Enthousiasm (HBO) and The Kominsky Method (Netflix).

Moreover, the foreign press talks a lot about the two series that we haven’t seen before : Ramy, who recounts the spiritual quest of a muslim american from New Jersey, and Never Have I Ever (My first time), which paints a portrait of a teenage american-indian who wishes to improve his social status. The first is broadcast on Crave, the second on Netflix.

In closing, know that if it was up to us, After Life (life after death) Ricky Gervais has received a ton of nominations, but in the United States, for a reason which escapes us, this touching and hilarious mini-series made little waves. Enjoy it on Netflix.

Best limited series

In a year where there is much talk of the movement Black Lives Matter, it is difficult to see how Watchmen (guards) could be ignored. This poignant HBO series, which explores the legacy of systemic racism, has redefined codes superhero.

Netflix will draw its pin from the game in this category managing to stay two title contenders cousin : Unbelievable (Unbelievable) and Unorthodox (Non-orthodox).

Although it has its flaws, the television adaptation of Little Fires Everywhere, with Reese Witherspoon, and Kerry Washington on Amazon Prime, raflera an appointment.

And all the american critics agreed that Mrs. America would be a finalist. This miniseries, in which Cate Blanchett embodies Phyllis Schlafly, a woman, american political conservative of the 1970s, is only available on FX Canada.
