Family physicians have observed a reduction of up to 80 % of consultation requests during the peak of the pandemic in Montreal, reveals the regional Department of general medicine (DRMG).
“There is evidence the net that people have been afraid to see, and it has had consequences which may be deleterious”, concerned Dr. François Loubert, chief of the DRMG of Montreal. Some parents have hesitated before seeing a doctor for the otitis of their child, for example, and this has led to complications.
However, the situation seems to be gradually returning to normal. The DRMG estimates that the decline of the consultations is now estimated to be around 30 %, according to the estimates of clinical.
Dr. Loubert encourages patients to consult with their physician if needed and a reminder that all sanitary measures are put in place to ensure their safety.
