The "Merkel One", the German government plane, was sold at auction for 5 million euros

L'appareil qui a transporté la chancelière allemande Angela Merkel pendant près de 10 ans a été vendu pour un prix cinq fois supérieur à ce que l'agence d'Etat chargée de la vente pensait le céder. 

The "Merkel One" has a new owner. Nicknamed for having been the transport plane of former German Chancellor Angela Merkel during her travels, the government Airbus A340 found a buyer during a auction, reports La Dépêche.

The device sold for no less than 5 million euros, a price five times higher than what the agency of State responsible for the sale was thinking of selling it.

25 years old, the plane was no longer unanimously accepted across the Rhine. the device faced recurring technical problems.

Private office, bathroom, private lounge…

The auction ended on February 15 but the highest bid was revealed a few days ago. The best bid  was 5 million and 111 euros exactly. The identity of the new owner is unknown.

Initially designed to accommodate approximately 300 passengers, this A340-300 has been fitted out to accommodate three times fewer but in absolute comfort. The unit has a private office, a large bathroom, a conference room and a large bathroom. 39;a private lounge. It is also equipped with 24 Business Class seats and 92 Economy Class seats.
