Le gel a fait des dégâts
#AVEYRON – Around 40 tonnes of fruit, including the entire Mirabelle plum harvest, lost; 10 to 15 tonnes of grapes destroyed, the arborists and wine growers of South Aveyron deplore the damage from the frost which returned a few days ago, after summer temperatures in mid-April. Scalded by the late reprisals of a mild winter, operators in the sector remain vigilant at least until mid-May. In the meantime, steps have been taken to have the state of natural calamity recognized, synonymous with compensation.
The number of the day: 44
#HERAULT– This is the number of days it took Denis Clerc, also known as Zinzin Reporter (our edition of March 31) to reach, from Saint-Géniès-des-Mourgues, Santiago de Compostela, via the GR653. That is twenty days ahead of its forecasts. Perhaps a record, but that matters little to our colleague from France 3, whose path was to serve as introspection after a romantic breakup."I walked towards the future", he said. He had in fact met his new companion, just before departure.
Une "ola" bridges for the passage of the flame
SÈTE – While the Olympic flame sails towards Marseille on the Belem, star of Stopover in Sète, Sète Agglo promises "a guard of honor"upon his arrival via the Royal Canal, between Pointe Courte and Plagette, on May 13, around 2 p.m. The SNCF bridge at Maréchal-Foch and that at Sadi-Carnot will rise to let the boat pass on which the flame will cross the Etang de Thau departing from Balaruc-les-Bains. Seeing the SNCF bridge rise was not a foregone conclusion. A letter from Sète Agglo to the management of the SNCF and the support of Sylvain Pelegrin, the director of the Lycée de la Mer, up to the State Secretariat responsible for the Sea, enabled the realization of this slightly crazy idea.
A label for the ex-Arcelor site
#GARD– A new page will be written in the industrial saga of the Arcelor Mittal site in Laudun-l’Ardoise, in cessation of activity since 2004. The former steel platform is one of the 55 properties to have been selected to be labeled France 2030 turnkey sites. The industrial wasteland of Ardoise is the only Gard winner to appear in the list. The objective now is to launch before the summer of 2024 a call for projects to define the future of this place promised to be reborn. In Hérault, the Mazeran technopark, near Béziers, obtained the same label, awarded on the basis of economic attractiveness criteria. An envelope of 450 M€ is intended for the 55 French sites.
Geothermal energy to replace gas
#MONTPELLIER– Supported by the Metropolis, Ademe and Altemed, the new Cambacérès geothermal power plant has just been inaugurated. Drawn by two boreholes at a depth of 120 m, the groundwater supplies reversible heat pumps, capable of producing heat in winter and cold in summer. Ultimately, more than 450,000 m2 of buildings will be powered by this system, which already supplies energy to the Sud de France station, as well as to housing in Lattes. The power plant is connected to the Port-Marianne wood-fired boiler room producing heat, cold and electricity. This link is not neutral since it will reduce additional gas consumption to only 5 to 10% in the long term. A saving in CO2 emissions estimated at 1,250 tonnes per year. The plant required a total investment of 17.5 M€, of which 4.6 M€ were financed by Ademe. This network is the second inaugurated in six months, after that of La Grande-Motte, where it is water drawn from the sea which heats and cools (thalassothermy).
