Product recall: watch out for these frozen shrimp contaminated by flesh-eating bacteria sold at Aldi in Occitanie

A batch of frozen tropical shrimp, sold for several months at Aldi, is contaminated with flesh-eating bacteria.

A batch of frozen raw tropical shrimp marketed under the Golden Seafood brand is the subject of a consumer recall. According to the sheet published by the distributor on the government website Rappel Conso, a batch is contaminated with vibrio vulnificus, a "flesh-eating"bacterium.

The batch concerned VN 089 V 101NTSF17 ALDIFR 23057B : its GTIN code 26048741 and its minimum durability date which runs until October 22, 2025. It is present in the form of a 400 gram tray and was marketed from March 18, 2024 to June 5, 2024 in all Aldi stores in the following regions:

Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Centre-Val de Loire, Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France, Ile-de-France, Normandy, New Aquitaine, Occitanie, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.

A bacteria that can be deadly

The vibrio vulnificus, this "flesh-eating" can be fatal. It can cause mild gastrointestinal disorders but is also the cause of severe cases, up to septicemia."Skin infections can also occur from pre-existing injuries in the event of handling products", alert Consumer recall.

Consumers in possession of the recalled product are encouraged to return it to the store for a refund. Customers can contact Aldi's after-sales service on 09/77/40/40/44. The recall procedure will end on Wednesday August 21, 2024.
