"We must reduce delinquency, reduce unemployment and reduce poverty", affirmed Robert Ménard, this Tuesday July 9, at the Béziers sub-prefecture. On this day, he signed, in his role as president of the Béziers Méditerranée agglomeration, the new city contract "Commitment districts 2 030< /em>" with the prefect of Hérault, François Xavier Lauch. The Occitanie Region will, for its part, sign this agreement on Friday July 12. In all, around ten partners are involved in this agreement, including banks, OPH, France Travail. At the origin of this city contract, citizen consultations were ;organized, from June to July 2023, with residents, associations, institutions, social landlords.

840 000 € of projects for Béziers

Result, a total financing of 840,000,000 euros; (600 000 € State, 120 000 € Agglo, between 100 000 € and 120 000  ;&euro for the Region and the CAF) will allow 63 project leaders (associations and institutions) to work in three priority districts of Béziers: City Centre, Iranget-Grangette and Devèze (whose poverty rate reaches 59%, a figure twice higher than the average for the community territory). « We need efficiency! We don't want any fragmentation (several funding towards various project leaders) and there will be more control in the future, pointed out Prefect Lauch.
Their projects must follow one of four priority axes: education, employment, public security and access to rights. This contract gives access to several specific state tax aids. Let us remember that today, more than 26,000 Biterrois live in a so-called « priority& nbsp;» where social and urban difficulties are concentrated. Their median standard of living is lower than the average for their city and town. Unemployment is twice as high as the departmental average.
