|After getting lost for 5 days in the Sierra Nevada, California, a 70-year-old man was found on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, after managing to survive thanks to a river.
A 70-year-old American hiker had gone for a short walk on Friday, July 19, at Hell Hole Reservoir, California, United States, according to the New York Post.
For 5 days, the man disappeared. He could not contact the emergency services because he did not have a phone.
It was the following Wednesday morning, around 8 o'clock, that the septuagenarian was found exhausted by another hiker.
He survived by drinking water from a river and eating wild berries.
Morale “was very good”
Rescues reached the scene and took him back to a safer place by helicopter. The hiker was uninjured and appeared to be in “very good” spirits.
A video shows him wearing damaged clothing while holding a water bottle. He is seen hugging his family after being rescued.
The man had lost his cowboy hat, which was returned to him, according to our colleagues.
