Rugby Union: for the new pillar of RC Nîmes, it was the right one… Maumont for a change of scenery!

“Corentin Maumont is a solid upright pillar, skilled with his hands. He is a hard worker, a player who wants to progress, who is hungry for rugby." It is with great conviction that Guillaume Aguilar presents his new pillar (1.85m, 130kg).

"If he doesn't do the job, I won't fail to call the coach who offered him to me", smiles the RCN manager, who assures us: "I have no doubt about Corentin's determination."

Simon Mannix, his mentor

The coach mentioned is Simon Mannix, the current coach of the Lobos of Portugal, who also managed Section Paloise and Biarritz Olympique. "Simon Mannix is a bit of a mentor to me. He has given me a lot,”, confirms Corentin Maumont who met the New Zealander when the latter joined Bassin d'Arcachon in 2021 to structure it.

Corentin Maumont is happy to have signed for Nîmes even if he suffers from the heat. “I admit that it's hard, it really stings! I'm going to have to get used to it."

The need to broaden one's horizons

At 26, the Vannes native sees his arrival at RCN as "a great opportunity. I needed a new challenge, a new project. Nîmes ticked all the boxes with a rugby made of combat and mobility, which corresponds to my profile".

Signing for Nîmes is also an opportunity to join “a club that has been playing at the top of the table for several seasons” and to broaden his horizons since he has only really known two clubs: the Brive rugby school and Bassin d'Arcachon where he played in all the youth categories until joining the senior team at 18.

A pillar who loves to bring the ball

This pillar, who likes to keep the ball alive, has signed two seasons (+1 optional) and is eager to begin the adventure. The future opponents of the RCN are making his mouth water. "Vienne, Rennes, Mâcon, Orléans, Geneva or the Stade Métropolitain, it's a tough group. It's going to be tough, especially up front, very strong. This foreshadows very big oppositions. That's good, I came to Nîmes to play this kind of match."
