"115 interventions since the beginning of July": Sète lifeguards make an initial assessment of the summer

The first aid stations are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Midi Libre – EVA TISSOT

Six first aid stations are present on all the beaches of Sète, to help bathers.

Every year, lifeguards on the coast at sea rescue hundreds of people. At the beginning of August, it is time for an initial assessment for the beaches of Sète.

115 interventions since the beginning of July

In four weeks, they carried out 115 interventions at all six first aid stations in the town. Of these rescues, 22 were to help swimmers in difficulty. One of the most notable was “a little girl who had been swept away by the current”, explains David Farran, sector manager.

No drownings on the horizon.  “That is good news", says David. The rest of the interventions are mainly of the order of "bobology", that is to say, people stung by weever fish or jellyfish or people who have had accidents on the greenway and people who are feeling unwell due to the heat.

Downward figures

"The intervention figures are not increasing. They are directly linked to the number of people visiting the beaches which is slightly down compared to last season", concludes David Farran.
