Zelensky welcomes Ukrainian raids on Russian airfields and refineries

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday praised his forces for striking military targets inside Russian-held territory, after his army reported several raids, including on an airfield and a fuel depot.

“I would like to thank each of our soldiers and all those who work in our defense industry for striking Russian airfields, oil refineries and logistics facilities,”, he wrote in his daily statement, adding that “each such strike brings us closer to ending the war,”.

Ukrainian military says it has sunk Russian submarine in Crimea

The Ukrainian military said Saturday it had sunk a Russian submarine and damaged an S-400 anti-aircraft missile system in the Crimean Peninsula. The Russian submarine “Rostov-on-Don” was sunk in the port of Sevastopol in Russian-occupied Crimea. Kiev also said it had significantly damaged four launchers of the “Triumf” air defense system on Friday.

Russian bombing in Pokrovsk, Ukraine, kills one

A Russian bombing raid on a residential area in the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk on Saturday killed one person and injured two others, the regional governor said. “Russians deliberately and regularly strike civilians”, wrote Vadym Filashkin, governor of the Donetsk region, on the Telegram messaging app. “Don't risk your lives! Evacuate!”

Twenty-nine months after the start of the Russian invasion, while Kiev's forces are exhausted, Moscow is gradually advancing on several fronts in Donetsk. Reuters witnesses saw a helmet lying next to a pool of blood and a moped about 10 metres from a 1-metre-wide crater in the middle of a residential street.

Smoke rose from the charred remains of a house flattened in the afternoon attack and a second building destroyed by the fire. Rescuers were still putting out the flames as residents looked on two hours after the impact, which police at the scene blamed on a D-30 bomb from the UMPB.
