L’équipe de la Tournée Midi Libre était présente de 9 h à 13 h.

A Saturday morning behind the Saint-Sixte II church, in the heart of the market, to meet and give a voice to those who animate local life: elected officials, associations, traders.

There was no shortage of atmosphere on Saturday, August 3, in the streets of Pérols with two events for the price of one. The Summer Tour stopped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Place Carnot, just before the launch of the annual Pérols votive festival, inaugurated by the unmissable release of 64 bulls at noon. At lunchtime, visitors were able to enjoy the entertainment at Midi Libre and the bulls just a few meters from each other. Events that attracted the public who, at the same time, listened to the elected officials who took turns on the media platform. Dorien Esteve, head of the festivities, was the first to take part in the exercise by recalling the program for this long weekend (see opposite). « There will be something for everyone during these five days», he added. A celebration that should absolutely not be missed and which, according to Mario Marcou, first deputy mayor, would even rise to the level of the Olympic Games: « The second city after Paris this week is Pérols, the golden gate of the Camargue. » A hyperbole that Jocelyne Taverne, deputy in the heart of the city, cannot contradict: «  Pérols is no longer what it was, we have woken up the inhabitants.  » This area, which used to be nothing but vineyards, is gradually rising to the level of the largest cities. «  We have brought the people of Pérols back to the heart of the village with the creation of a large market and the installation of this fountain», says Jocelyne Taverne happily.

A village that no longer goes unnoticed

All this hustle and bustle is beneficial for the city. « We were a bit sleepy, the inhabitants of the neighboring communes did not notice Pérols before, but that changes. I invite all our neighbors to come to our place it is a charming place with many activities throughout the year , says Mayor Jean-Pierre Rico. To be able to welcome new residents and visitors, the municipality is continuing its beautification projects, as the mayor specifies. « I am fighting to obtain the third flower of the “Villes et Villages Fleuris” label, », a distinction rewarding municipalities that put the environment at the heart of their initiatives: « For example, we no longer use any chemical products for the maintenance of heritage, and the effects are immediate, butterflies, grasshoppers and even ducks are coming back. »
Not to mention the La Trame verte project to build a cycle and pedestrian path leading directly from the tram to the beach. Plans that will continue to propel the capital of the Camargue.
