Alain Delon, comédien et défenseur de la cause animale, est mort ce dimanche 18 août 2024 auprès de ses enfants et de son chien.

Alain Delon, the famous actor, died at the age of 88 this Sunday, August 18, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones and his faithful dog Loubo. The latter, described by Delon as his “end-of-life companion”, was particularly dear to his heart.

In 2018, in an interview with Paris Match, Delon confided: “If I die before him, I'll ask the vet to let us leave together. I prefer that to knowing that he will let himself die on my grave with so much suffering."

In the family's press release announcing the actor's death, quoted by Le Parisien, Loubo is mentioned alongside Alain Delon's children:“Alain-Fabien, Anouchka, Anthony, and Loubo are deeply saddened to announce the passing of their father. He passed away peacefully in his home in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and his family.”

More than fifty animals in his life

Delon was a true dog enthusiast and had more than fifty animals in his life. Loubo, a Belgian shepherd dog who was almost ten years old, held a special place in his heart. “I have a special relationship with this one. He's my end-of-life dog, a Belgian shepherd that I love like a child. I miss him when I'm not with him,” he explained to Paris Match before declaring: ““If he were to die before me, which I hope, I wouldn't get another one.”

The League of Animals paid tribute to Delon on X: “An emblematic figure of France and cinema leaves us. Rest in peace, Alain Delon, next to your beloved dogs."

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation paid tribute to "an exceptional man, an unforgettable artist and a great friend of animals", adding: "Alain was much more than a cinema icon; his commitment left a mark on our hearts. Patron of our first Christmas of the Animals, he supported our Foundation with rare generosity."

In 1996, during an interview with Bernard Pivot, Delon expressed his aversion to "the sound of guns shooting wolves and all other animals". Asked what kind of animal he would like to be reincarnated as, he replied: “So right away, a Malinois is a Belgian shepherd.”
