Programming, waste management and short circuit: the reasons that push us to dance at the Palmarosa festival in Montpellier

Du 23 au 25 août, Palmarosa fait son retour DR

This weekend, from August 23 to 25, the Palmarosa festival returns to Montpellier for the third consecutive year. Festival-goers will be able to shake their hips to an Indie-Pop-Rock program, while remaining committed.

1. International artists

This year, the festival brings together the big names in Indie-Pop-Rock. On Saturday night, the headliner is none other than Phoenix. The Versailles group notably shone at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games, alongside Angèle and Kavinsky.

It's impossible not to mention Gossip, known for its singer as talented as she is eccentric: Beth Ditto. If you don't think you know this band from Oregon, listen to Heavy Cross, and get in the time machine, direction 2009. This performance is expected, since the band had broken up in 2016, before returning with a new album last March.

“On another love, another love, all my tears have been used up", these words from Tom Odell have been making us shiver since 2013. Make way for something new! The British artist will present his sixth album, Black Friday, released last January.

Other well-known artists will take to the stage: The Hives (Sweden), The Vaccines (London), Kid Francescoli (Marseille), Soul Wax (Belgian) and The Kills (American-British).

2. Artists from our country

In Montpellier too, we play rock! You only have to read the festival program to realize it. The child of the south, Kazy Lambist will share his pop, sunny (like our beautiful Mediterranean), and nostalgic universe that he perfects through Moda, his second album, released last June.

As a duo on stage as in life, Bandit Bandit, will perform their first album, 11:11. The Montpellier couple formed after a tumultuous beginning that gave birth to their romantic and sulphurous titles.

Even in the programming, the organizers do not forget the commitment! The Solidarity Mixeuses will play every day. The collective of seventeen DJs from the south of France fights against all forms of inequality and against sexist and sexual violence.

3. Zero waste objective

Zero plastic at Palmarosa. Festival-goers have two choices: take advantage of the free drinking water points to fill their water bottle or buy a Tetra Pak bottle. The partner, Eau neuve, offers this recyclable packaging made of plastic-coated cardboard, to contain mineral water, drawn from Occitanie.

All that remains is to throw the Tetra Pak in the recycling bins provided. Cigarette butts and urine will also be collected and recycled. Last year, 100 kg of organic waste was collected and transformed into compost and organic agricultural solutions.

4. Preserving the natural environment

Since the 16th century, the Grammont estate in Montpellier has been a conservatory of local flora. Planted under the Empire, the 90-hectare park is home to a centuries-old cedar. The organizers ensure that the infrastructure does not modify or permanently affect the vegetation.

5. Favor the short circuit

With the aim of eating well and living well, the Palmarosa festival highlights local producers. The restaurateurs favor regional, organic and seasonal products. For the occasion, the PRIZM brewery is developing a 100% Montpellier beer in collaboration with the festival: La Palmarosa. On the wine list, rosé, white and red all benefit from the AOP Languedoc, the event's partner.

6. A solidarity event

In addition to the collective of solidarity mixers, the festival has renewed more than thirty local association partnerships. The event was notably designed in collaboration with Palmarosa Social Club. This association brings together festival-goers, volunteers, and managers who work to provide accessibility for PRMs – people with reduced mobility –, flow management, and contribute to the establishment of association partnerships.

7. The right price

Vincent Lagaf' will not make you guess the price of your ticket, the right price is already displayed. The festival does not receive any subsidies and is organized independently. The ticket covers the costs incurred, pays employees correctly and tries to remain as affordable as possible.

Children under 14 are lucky because entry is free for them.
