'I just wanted to calm the child': Plane passengers lock baby in toilet because of crying

A one-year-old baby was forced to travel in a plane toilet on a Juneyao Airlines flight from Guiyang in the southwest of the country to Shanghai because she was crying too much. Her grandmother agreed to let two female passengers “educate” the little girl. The incident is going viral on Chinese social media.

She is punished and locked in the toilet: a one-year-old girl spent her journey through the air not in her place with her grandmother, but in the toilets, taken by two passengers on a flight from Guiyang, in the southwest of the country, to Shanghai, reports BBC. The little girl started crying during the flight while she was traveling with her grandmother.

“I just wanted to calm the child down”

Gou Tingting, one of the two women, posted a video of herself carrying the girl into the toilet, saying she did it to help other passengers on the flight, but on social media, it didn't have the desired effect.“I just wanted to calm the child and allow everyone to rest” and the passengers on the plane would have “moved to the back of the plane to escape the noise”.

In another video that Ms. Gou posted, the second woman tells the baby that if she doesn't stop crying, she won't get out of the cabin. Many people criticized the two women for their lack of empathy, some even talking about "bullying" towards the little girl.

"Children can't control their emotions when they're one or two years old. What's wrong with crying?? Didn't you cry when you were little too??”, adds one netizen. "We should think about how public spaces can be more accepting and welcoming of young children,", comments another.

"To be honest, some children can't do without some education,", argues a user on Weido, a Chinese social network. Indeed, Ms. Gou has also been supported by many others. In China and South Korea, for example, trains and public places are beginning to ban children, or to provide spaces specifically for them.
