About fifteen cyclists will arrive in Sète on September 1st and 2nd. They are part of Alternatiba, which, along with other associations, will promote on-site better consideration of justice and climate solidarity by public authorities.

The Vélorution. A concept from the 1970s that refers to gatherings of cyclists pedaling in favor of gentler means of transport. The Alternatiba association, which launched its 2024 Tour de France last June, is part of this vein. This collective of cyclists is stopping off in Sète on September 1st and 2nd with a packed program.

Community village and bike tour

On Sunday, September 1st, a village of local initiatives will be set up on Place du Pouffre from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be representatives from Alternatiba, as well as Greenpeace, Alerte LGV sur Thau (ALT) and the Human Rights League. This will be an opportunity for the people of Sète to talk with these members of associations on topics closely or loosely related to the dangers of climate change.

On the Tour Alternatiba side, around fifteen cyclists will take over Place Roger-Thérond at the Lido at 4:30 p.m., then get on their bikes and head towards the Môle roundabout. On site, members of the association La Roue Libre de Thau will discuss the problems encountered by two-wheeled users in Sète and will discuss the creation of new cycle paths. The cyclists will then take a tour of the city, passing by the train station, before joining their brothers in arms at Place du Pouffre.

Taking action in the face of current challenges

On Sunday evening, starting at 7 p.m., Alternatiba will organize a conference addressing the following question: what strategies to address current challenges (climate, etc.) ? A moment that will be interactive with the public in order to debate the green alternatives to imagine for the future. Meet at the Baraquette citoyenne at 31 rue Révolution.

This green mobilization will end on Monday evening, 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m., with free training in nonviolent action, also at the Baraquette citoyenne. All these initiatives, spread over two days, are in reality offered to residents in an effort to raise awareness of the risks of climate change and, above all, to promote citizen mobilization.
