Lucas Mazur a remporté son deuxième titre paralympique en s’imposant en finale du parabadminton face à l’Indien Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj, ce lundi 2 septembre.

Frenchman Lucas Mazur retained his Paralympic badminton champion title in the SL4 category by sweeping aside his Indian opponent Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj on Monday at the Arena La Chapelle, a few hours after winning bronze in the doubles in the morning.

Mazur, aged 26, dominated his opponent in two sets (21-9, 21-13) and thus won a second Paralympic gold medal, three years after a first consecration conquered in Tokyo.

The SL4 category is reserved for standing athletes with a disability affecting a lower limb, but who can run. As for Lucas Mazur, it is his right ankle that is affected, since a stroke at the age of three.

10th gold medal

With this victory, he offers a tenth gold medal to the French delegation since the start of the Paris Games. The Loiret native had an extraordinary day, since he started it by pocketing the bronze medal in the mixed doubles with Faustine Noël.

The French pair won in two sets (21-14, 21-16) against the Thai doubles. And at the start of the evening, Mazur was already back on the court, this time to play for gold, as the big favourite.

Noakes also in the final

Nothing to scare him: the player who trains at the Creps in Bordeaux started his match in the best possible way by inflicting a 7-0 on his opponent from the start. He then managed his lead before a more tense second set, marked by longer rallies, but which inexorably turned to his advantage.

French badminton can to win a second gold medal on Monday with Charles Noakes, in the final of the SH6 category for people of small stature. He faces the British Krysten Coombs in a match scheduled from 9 p.m.
