A little girl aged just one year old was seriously bitten in the face by an American Staffordshire terrier at her home, according to the Senlis prosecutor's office, confirming information from the Courrier Picard.

The dog belonging to the father of the family “grabbed the child by the cheek”, said a source close to the case interviewed by the Parisien. The attack caused him "serious facial injuries", the Senlis public prosecutor said in a press release.

The child's mother, aged 25 and present at the time of the attack, tried to intervene. She was injured in the hand while helping him.

The father did not have the authorizations to keep this type of dog

The 23-year-old father, absent at the time of the events, was taken into custody to be questioned. He admitted to investigators that he did not have authorization and that he had not taken the necessary steps to keep this type of dog. He also stressed that his animal had never been aggressive.

The prosecutor announced that it was opening an investigation for “unintentional injuries due to an attack on a dog”.

The animal itself was placed in the pound, according to our colleagues.
