Une chatte a été retrouvé pendu ce mercredi 4 septembre 2024 à Montardon, au nord de Pau. Le voisin suspecté a été placé en garde à vue puis remis en liberté.

The Adap 64 association has strongly denounced an act of cruelty that occurred in Montardon, north of Pau, where a cat named Rosie was found hanged on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, reports SudOuest.

A “cuddly” cat and "playful"

It was the criminal lawyer Thierry Sagardoytho, committed to the defense of animals, who shared the publication of the ’Adap 64. "Douce Rosie was found hanged, hanging like a trophy on the wall separating the two properties", described The ’association, which takes in abandoned animals in the Pau region.

The animal, described as "cuddly, playful, little ray of sunshine" of her family, was the victim of a cruel act after her neighbor had already threatened and set traps for her.

The Serres-Castet gendarmerie took charge of the case following the owner's complaint. The suspected neighbor, at whose home several traps were discovered, was taken into custody before being released pending further investigation.

He could be prosecuted for “act of cruelty” towards an animal, an offence punishable by three years in prison and a fine of 45,000 euros. "This poor little cat did not deserve this revolting fate of cruelty", reacted Me Sagardoytho, adding that Adap will constitute itself a civil party in this case.

A terrible discovery

Adap 64 also expressed its indignation in a long Facebook post, highlighting "the slow and painful agony" of Rosie and the suffering of her family who made the terrible discovery in the morning. “We wish a lot of courage to Rosie's very touching family, as well as to other neighbors… who all live in fear", continued the association, mentioning other animals in the neighborhood under threat.

This barbaric act has deeply shocked animal rights activists, reinforcing the determination of Adap 64 to prosecute the suspected neighbor. “Justice will be served!" concluded the association, hoping that the case would result in a conviction before the criminal court.
