Work around the Nîmes Market Halls begins this Monday, September 16

Ce lundi 16 septembre, la Ville de Nîmes lance les travaux de piétonnisation de la rue Guizot et de rénovation du pourtour des Halles.

The feria has barely finished when work will begin this Monday, September 16, to renovate the area around the Nîmes market halls. Rue Guizot will be pedestrianized and the area around the market will be renovated. Rue Guizot, des Halles, Corconne and the section of Rue Général-Perrier in front of the Coupole are subject to a complete renovation. In total, 4,380 m2 of surface area will be renovated, including 2,850 m2 with limestone cladding, like the new Rue Auguste nearby.

During the works, pedestrian traffic will be preserved, the market halls and the surrounding shops will remain accessible. “Aware of the inconvenience that these works could cause, my services will do everything possible to ensure that each participant limits the nuisance as much as possible”, explains Jean-Paul Fournier, Mayor of Nîmes.

Until the end of November, Rue des Halles will be closed. Access to the Coupole car park will be maintained via Rue Nationale via Rue des Lombards, in the opposite direction from Avenue Général-Perrier. Please note that in mid-October, for the needs of the construction site, access to the car park will once again be possible from Rue des Halles for a period of approximately two weeks. As for the parking spaces on this same street, they will be neutralized until the beginning of December to serve as a storage area.

A pedestrian and green Guizot Street

Ultimately, Guizot Street will become pedestrianized up to the exit of the Coupole car park to facilitate the installation of current and future terraces. Limestone coverings and structures will contribute to the beautification of this living space. Rue Guizot will also be planted with six new coppiced trees, like those planted on Rue Auguste.

On Rue des Halles, traffic will be maintained, as will parking. These works should be put into perspective with the major restructuring of the Coupole and the upcoming arrival of Galeries Lafayette.

The total cost of the project is nearly €2 million, including €1.9 million for the city of Nîmes and €132,000 for the city of Nîmes. for Nîmes Métropole.

The City specifies the phasing of the works:

From mid-September to mid-October, sanitation of Rue des Halles and roadworks on Rue Guizot Sud. Rue des Halles will be closed. Access to the car park will be maintained via Rue Nationale via Rue des Lombards in the opposite direction (except for night works) or occasionally Rue des Halles. Neutralization of some parking lots on Rue Guizot or at the top of Rue des Halles for construction site storage. Rue Guizot Sud closed. Pedestrian access to the halls maintained. Deliveries to the market halls via Rue Guizot.

From mid-October to mid-December, work on the closed road on Rue des Halles until the sidewalk on the market hall side is delivered (with Rue des Halles reopening at the end of November, excluding parking).

From January to mid-April 2025, work on Rue Guizot. Rue des Halles in service. Exit from the car park maintained. Neutralization of some parking on Rue Guizot for construction site storage. Rue Guizot open to traffic then closed from mid-February. Pedestrian access to the market halls maintained. Deliveries to Rue des Halles.

From the end of March to the 2025 Pentecost fair (not included), work on Avenue Général-Perrier. Rue des Halles in service. Rue Guizot pedestrianized. Work with traffic maintained on Général-Perrier (except at night) and a half-sidewalk to maintain pedestrian access to the market halls. Possible parking entrances and exits. Neutralization of some parking lots on Rue des Halles for construction site storage. Work stopped during the Feria.

Summer 2025, work Rue Corconne. Work with traffic maintained (except at night). Neutralized parking lots (opposite McDonald's). Possible parking entrances and exits.

Autumn and winter 2025, renovation of the Chaussée de Général-Perrier and plantings on Rue Guizot.
