F1: Piastri wins in Azerbaijan after crazy end to Grand Prix marked by accident between Sainz Jr and Perez

Australian Oscar Piastri (McLaren) won for the second time this season on Sunday 15 September at the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, after a crazy end to the race marked by an accident between Carlos Sainz Jr (Ferrari) and Sergio Pérez (Red Bull).
The podium is completed by Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), second after having fought for long laps for the win against Piastri, and George Russell (Mercedes), third who was able to take advantage of the clash between Pérez and Sainz Jr in front of him on the penultimate lap, which caused the end of the race under virtual safety car.

Norris takes back more points at Verstappen
Starting fifteenth on the grid, Lando Norris (McLaren) finished fourth and took four points from world championship leader Max Verstappen (Red Bull), fifth in the end, whom he overtook at the end of the race.
In the general standings, Norris is back to 59 points behind the Dutchman while McLaren takes the lead in the constructors' world championship with seven races still to go, including the next one in Singapore, starting next weekend.
A suspenseful end to the race
Starting from pole position, Charles Leclerc had nevertheless made a good start, maintaining his advantage from the first corner. Before seeing Oscar Piastri overtake him after 20 laps and never losing the advantage again.
The Monegasque fought hard for long moments behind the McLaren, nevertheless failing to find an opening in a suspenseful end to the race. Worse, the recent winner of Monza destroyed his rear tires in the pursuit, seeing Sergio Pérez's Red Bull come back in his rearview mirrors.

The Mexican was even close to overtaking him on the penultimate lap, but Leclerc's superb defense prevented him from doing so and allowed his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr to overtake Pérez… before the collision between the two single-seaters.
This end of the race was also marked by the superb comeback of Lando Norris on Max Verstappen. Thanks to a last stop to change tires, the Briton managed to overtake his rival in the championship while he was 13 seconds behind ten laps from the end.
