French Cup of traditional rowing in Sète: two prizes for Théoule-sur-Mer, the Sète team in 3rd position

Les finales de la compétition se déroulaient ce dimanche, sur le plan d’eau de la criée de Sète.

The area around the auction was packed with people this Sunday, late morning, as the qualifications for the final of the French Cup of traditional rowing were taking place. Throughout the weekend, 70 crews (24 clubs) of six rowers were competing in this competition organized by Cettarames.

“Come on, come on”, shouted a group installed on a jetty bordering the stretch of water between the pier and the auction. On the water, two teams of rowers intend to qualify for the men's final. Applause finally rises when, after 1.38 of racing, the six members of Saint-Romain-en-Gal beat their opponent. “My two boys are participating. The last two editions, their team had already won, we have to do the same this year”, proudly indicates Laurent, who came from the Rhone-Alpes town.

“Stay focused”

At the Cros-de-Cagnes club, it's now time to concentrate after the joy triggered by the women's and mixed teams qualifying for the finals. “Stay focused”, says the 80-year-old helmsman to his troops who decide to go and warm up. A discipline that paid off since the women's team took first place in its category, against Mèze.

Concerning the other categories, Martigues finished in first position in mixed + 50 years, the Rameurs de l'Orb distinguished themselves in women + 50 years, Gruissan finished first in mixed, Théoule-sur-Mer distinguished themselves in men + 50 years as well as in men. The Sète team, for their part, climbed onto the third step of the podium in women and men + 50 years.
