Education: a new school in Nîmes and changes for AESH

During the municipal council of September 28, in Nîmes, several important deliberations concerned the educational field.

Several subjects relating to education fed the municipal council of Saturday, October 28. First, the question of the new school, on the edge of the Pissevin and Puech du Teil neighborhoods,“including a leisure centre and accommodating 11 elementary classes and 5 nursery classes”. The resolution to launch the procedure for the competition for project management was passed. This new school should see the light of day in 2026-2027 with a clear ambition: “to develop real diversity in this new school group. That's why we're locating it here, with an entrance on the Puech du Teil side and an emphasis on language learning,” explains Véronique Gardeur-Bancel, deputy for education.

Facilitating the care of children in need of AESH

Still on the subject of education, a deliberation concerning the continuity of the work of AESH, between school time (where the AESH is employed by the DSDEN) and after-school time (where he is employed by the city was voted on. The idea being to ensure continuity of monitoring of children with disabilities requiring an AESH. “These are unattractive jobs because they are very poorly paid, underlines Véronique Gardeur-Bancel. And we, the City, are desperately looking for AESH for after-school time. The idea was to set up a single contract for AESH, with two employers (DSDEN on school time, City on extracurricular time”. And to ensure, in passing, a status of public law contract on the entire contract. This decision was welcomed for the left by Jo Menut : “It is a very good thing for the child first, but also for the AESH who, as a result, will be able to have stability in his job. However, the last sentence of this deliberation intrigues me. It is said that the maximum number of positions is limited to 10. Does this mean that only 10 children will be concerned ? That only 10 AESH positions will be allocated ? » . Ms. Gardeur-Bancel replied that this figure was, for the moment, “10 people targeted”, but that it could very well change in the future.

Last point of education discussed, that of the educational city. Pissevin-Valdegour, Chemin-Bas, Mas-de-Mingue. A new three-year agreement was adopted, to continue a panel of "collective actions in favor of equal opportunities"in the QPVs, between 2024 and 2027. While the Nîmes educational city previously only concerned Pissevin-Valdegour, it will now be extended to two other territories: Chemin-Bas d'Avignon and Mas de Mingue. For the Democrats, Valérie Rouverand insists: “We know how important this system is. The role of the school is essential. I am just concerned by the attributions of the municipality which are decreasing.” Indeed, while the State has planned to significantly increase funding for the Nîmes educational city, the city of Nîmes will reduce its sum between 2025 and 2027, going from 33,334 euros in February 2025 to 16,666 euros in February 2027. For Véronique Gardeur-Bancel, it is appropriate to look at the overall investment“in the educational policy on a daily basis. The City puts a lot into it!”
