Mazan rape trial: “Wow, she's a champion”, Australian women want to support Gisèle Pelicot by sending her a gift

If this fifth week of the trial is marked by the absence of Dominique Pelicot, his ex-wife, Gisèle, can count on the help of women on the other side of the world.

It is a group of elderly women, from an Australian association (Older Womens Networks), who launched an appeal for donations with the aim of offering a gift to Gisèle Pelicot, in order to support Dominique's victim. The extraordinary trial of the Mazan rapes is attracting interest from all over the world, up to 17,000 kilometers away, reports France Bleu.

“We want her to feel the love we have for her around her neck”

While the facts of this case are beyond belief, Gisèle Pelicot's courage has left its mark on the entire world. "When we saw that Gisèle had chosen to renounce her anonymity and expose these absolutely atrocious crimes to the light of day, we said to ourselves, wow, she's a champion", says Yumi Lee, president of the Australian Association for the Defense of Older Women.

That's when the idea came to give Dominique Pelicot's victim a gift. The association wants to send a silk scarf, made by Aboriginal artists. That is why the women's group has launched an appeal for donations to finance the purchase and sending of this scarf.

“We want, by wearing this scarf, for her to feel around her neck the love we have for her and the expression of our solidarity,” Yumi Lee tells our colleagues. After a certain period of time his gift.

Since the Australians did not have Gisèle Pelicot's address, it was one of the victim's lawyers who received it, notes France Bleu.

Dominique Pelicot absent

The Mazan rape trial began its fifth week of hearings on Monday with the continuation of the parade of Dominique Pelicot's 50 co-accused, excused for the day for medical.

“He is ill. He must undergo a medical procedure this afternoon. I have excused him for the day. […] We will take stock of his state of health at the end of the day", explained the president of the criminal court of Vaucluse, Roger Arata, at the start of the hearing.

Dominique Pelicot, 71, had already undergone a medical examination on Friday, a day on which no hearing had been scheduled. Her lawyer, Me Béatrice Zavarro, had indicated on Sunday that this examination had gone well, and expected her client to be present on Monday.
