A sensory garden was inaugurated by the Camsp. This space was developed to meet the needs of children with multiple disabilities and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Offering new treatments. The Early Medical Social Action Center (Camsp) inaugurated a sensory garden on Tuesday, October 1st. Several tools allow the center's teams to work on the senses of child patients in a 120 m2 space. The sensory garden is structured on the basis of a circuit that solicits the senses in turn.

The space is colorful to stimulate the sight, with several musical instruments distributed in the garden to create a sound atmosphere. To solicit the touch, several aquatic workshops have been installed. The course also has a botanical part with edible plants such as mint, radishes, etc. to work the taste and smell.

This garden is an open-air therapeutic room, says Laetitia Potare, health manager at Camsp. Workshops can engage multiple senses at once to enable children's motor and sensory development."

A tool for children with multiple disabilities

The sensory garden is mainly aimed at children with multiple disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders. The majority of these young patients are aged between 3 and 6 years old. Each workshop has been designed for instinctive and fun use. "The idea was for the sensory garden to be accessible to all children of Camsp, explain Clémence and Sonia, members of the center's team. It offers lots of modalities and new spaces for children."

The project was carried out on an old part of Camsp that was no longer used by the center. The old workshops and work tools have been replaced by an artificial river, chimes and a manipulation table. "These are our tools and our medicines for children", enthuses Elisabeth Schuck, child psychiatrist at Camsp.

The project was carried out in partnership with several groups including the Regional Health Agency.
