First trips

The new Minister Delegate for Daily Security was making one of his first trips there since his appointment and taking up office on September 21.

A distinguished guest, for this ceremony in situ, received by a local delegation composed of Mayor Pierre Soujol and several deputies – in particular Stéphane Alibert, Delegate for Security and Prevention – as well as the director of the municipal police Thibaut Azaubert and the new commander of the Lunel gendarmerie company Stéphanie Chareyron.

"A high-level and scalable tool"

À At the end of an eight-month construction site on the ground floor of the municipal police premises, located at 176 avenue Victor-Hugo, the urban supervision center (CSU) of Lunel represents “a real nerve center of local security”, assured, this Friday, September 4, Mayor Pierre Soujol during the inauguration in the presence of Nicolas Daragon, Minister Delegate in charge of everyday security.

With a surface area of ​​65 m2, the CSU – whose total cost amounts to 760,000 euros, including renovation work, project management and IT equipment – ​​has fifteen public highway control screens, equipped with 76 cameras spread across the city, including one in front of each school.

The municipality's objective is to reach 80 by the end of 2026. The urban supervision center works in synergy with the gendarmerie forces, “with the hope that the latter will be connected to 100%”, Nicolas Daragon assured in his inaugural speech.

Active 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the CSU can be reached at 04 67 87 84 00.

Making Lunel "a safer and more peaceful city"

The visit to the urban supervision center, commented by Thibaut Azaubert, revealed to the minister "a high-level tool and equipment and scalable", Nicolas Daragon said after the explanations of the director of the municipal police.

During his speech following the discovery of "this modern structure at the service of citizens", the collaborator of the new Minister of the Interior Bruno Retailleau, also mayor of Valence since 2014, stressed the importance of such an investment "for which the security forces and local elected officials spare no effort, no collaboration and do not give in to demagogic speeches in the face of a strong political orientation of the municipality" to make Lunel "a safer and more peaceful city", continued Mayor Pierre Soujol in the city council chamber during the speeches following the unveiling of the CSU's inaugural plaque.

87 % of the population in favor of this facility

The city's first elected official insisted on this desire “to offer the citizens of Lunel real local security, public tranquility and the maintenance of order in their city”.

Statements supported and confirmed by Nicolas Daragon through a recent study “which reveals that 87% of the population is in favor of video protection; 65% of intelligent video protection”. An indirect response from the Minister Delegate for Daily Security to current and future detractors of the urban supervision center.

Nicolas Daragon concluded his remarks by going even further, inviting “all mayors in France to equip themselves with this same tool”. A tool with a total financial envelope of 760,000 euros, including 50,000 euros via the Interministerial Crime Prevention Fund (FIPD). A CSU that wants to be “far from the image of Big Brother”, (r) assured the minister, “but close to collaboration, field cooperation and the involvement of all in the service of residents”.
