“We will know in December”: Region, City and Laurent Nicollin have made progress on the site of the future MHSC stadium at the Parc Expos in Pérols

La présidente de la Région, le maire de Montpellier et le président du MHSC se sont rencontrés en septembre pour étudier la possibilité de construire le nouveau stade du Montpellier HSC autour du Parc des Expos à Pérols.

An opening for the new stadium ? During the month of September, the president of the Montpellier Hérault Sport Club (MHSC) Laurent Nicollin met with the president of the Occitanie Region Carole Delga and the mayor and president of the Montpellier Metropolis Mickaël Delafosse to move forward on the new stadium project.

"We had a meeting with the mayor of Montpellier and the president of the Region. We held this meeting to validate certain things. From now on, the services are working to study the feasibility of things. We will know whether the project for a new stadium can be completed or not in December", confirms the president of the MHSC.

Since 2016, Laurent Nicollin has been working to build a new stadium, which he believes is essential for the survival of his club in Ligue 1, and to move from La Mosson, built for the 1998 World Cup. After having abandoned several options at the ZAC Cambacérès, near the new train station, or at the Ode à la Mer commercial zone in Pérols, the Parc des Expos site has won the support of various parties.

“We sense a political ambition”

“We validated the site with the President of the Region and Mickaël Delafosse”, assures the boss héraultais. The future stadium will not necessarily be at the center of the game, but it will be integrated into the renovation of the Parc des Expos. “The stadium will complement the beautiful and large Parc des Expos project. We sense a political ambition”, explains Laurent Nicollin.

A few months ago, the Region proposed this solution to Laurent Nicollin. Owner of the facilities and main shareholder of the SPL Occitanie Events, it wants to renovate the Parc des Expos site. A site served by the tram, accessible by car and without land constraints.
