Les Français remplacent de plus en plus la viande par les oeufs. Leur consommation a augmenté de 4,4 % en même temps que leur prix a baissé.

The French are eating less meat and are instead choosing eggs as a source of protein.

Their consumption has  increased by 4.4% at the same time as their prices have fallen. Unlike meat, whose prices have increased.

The French consume an annual average of 224 eggs. "Each French person consumed four more eggs in 2023, compared to 2022", explained Yves-Marie, a Breton poultry farmer on TF1.

99% of consumption produced in France

Which requires 700 000 hens in the country because 99% of consumption is produced in France.

But if the increase continues, we must anticipate if we want to continue to be able to meet demand and limit imports. This is why the French sector wants to continue its investments: "That's 300 livestock buildings to be built in the next six years, and an investment of 300 million euros", estimated Loïc Coulombel, the vice-president of the National Committee for the Promotion of Eggs, on TF1.
