Gita, 13, sat in the middle of the road in Washington state to alert the police after her owner injured his leg in mid-September.

Gita, a 13-year-old dog, lived with her owner in Washington state, US. On September 25, when her octogenarian owner injured his leg and was left immobile for hours after a fall at his home, she left the house and sat in the middle of the nearest road, hoping to attract someone's attention, reportsThe Guardian.

A Local Sheriff's Deputy finally noticed the dog. Although he tried to get her into his patrol car to find her master, Gita refused. The officer then began checking surrounding houses, but was unable to find the home of Gita's owner. Back near the dog, she finally guided the policeman to her home.

There, the officer heard the man's voice calling for help. “There could have been serious consequences if he had not been found”, said the Stevens County Sheriff's Office, which has called Gita a “rescue dog” and a “best friend” of the man, adding that she had “saved her master's life that day” .
