Clémentville's move: to develop, downtown clinics had to relocate to the outskirts

The clinics in the city centre are cramped. Unable to grow on site, they are trying to get out of the hypercentre, to be able to continue their expansion. While taking care, however, to stay on the outskirts of the Hérault capital.

The first to move was the Saint-Roch clinic, created in 1947 by Doctor Etienne Ponseillé. After 70 years of presence in the city, in the historic heart, the polyclinic of the Oc Santé group (like Clémentville) moved in 2016 to the Grisettes district under construction, in the southwest of Montpellier. An extraordinary move to be able to build a brand new building capable of responding to the developments in modern medicine. A move partly financed by the sale of the historic land on a high-value property where high-end apartments have emerged.

Moreover, the Oc Santé group, shortly before this move, created the Millénaire clinic in 2003, taking great care to set up in a brand new district: Port Marianne. In order not to be constrained by the difficulties of a city center that is difficult to access.

The Saint-Jean clinic has pushed back the obvious decision to move until the end

The Saint-Jean clinic, created in 1956 by Doctor Ginestie in a park on Avenue Bouisson-Bertrand in the Boutonnet district, has long pushed back the obvious decision. The successive expansions have been carried out to the maximum of the possibilities of this protected and particularly constrained sector. The last major extension works date from 2005 with the creation of a new emergency service and the increase in the number of rooms.

In 2011, the Cap Santé Group, chaired by Lamine Gharbi, bought the Clinique Saint-Jean and gradually began to find more spacious and more suitable premises. As with Saint-Roch, Saint-Jean left the city center and, in August 2020, moved to the majestic Clinique Saint-Jean Sud de France, on the Place de l'Europe in Saint-Jean-de-Védas next to the A709 motorway interchange.

The Clémentville clinic will therefore follow the same logic. However, there are still the Rech clinics and the Beau Soleil clinic which have managed to grow on site in the center of Montpellier. On the other hand, the Parc clinic in Castelnau-le-Lez, also located in a very constrained location, is pushing the Clinipole group of President Serge Constantin to want to move to the Sablassou sector. If this faces an outcry, the move is still planned for 2029-2030.
