Violent action plan: Afghans arrested

#HAUTE-GARONNE – On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, three people, including two Afghans, were arrested in Haute-Garonne for a “violent action plan”, the national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office said. The people were arrested at 6 a.m. in Toulouse and Fronton (Haute-Garonne) by investigators from the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI), supported by the RAID. The two Afghans were linked, one of the sources said, according to which "they were preparing a violent action on French territory". Their arrest came after receiving information.

Rising waters and mudslides in Lozère

#CEVENOL EPISODE –The heavy rains that fell on Lozère during the night of Monday 7 October to Tuesday 8 October caused flooding and mudslides in the La Canourgue area. The department had been placed on orange alert since Monday. During the night, a violent storm caused flooding in La Canourgue and Banassac, with a sudden rise in water levels that invaded cellars and garages. In La Canourge, a dirt road was completely destroyed and hollows of more than a metre made access to homes impossible. Local public works equipment was at work to help those affected. At the height of the storms, 45 firefighters from several Lozère municipalities were mobilised. On Tuesday morning, thirty of them were still working to continue pumping operations. There were no injuries. In the Gard, 228 millimeters of precipitation were recorded in Sénéchas, 208 in Mialet, 200 in La Grand-Combe. In Aveyron, it was the village of Séverac-d'Aveyron that was badly affected. Mudslides, floods, pollution of sources which forced the municipality to distribute packs of water. Farmers saw their fields just sown reduced to nothing.

Stéphane Bern inaugurates the monumental staircase

#PONT-SAINT-ESPRIT – On Tuesday, October 8, 2024, Stéphane Bern came to inaugurate the monumental staircase of Pont-Saint-Esprit, closed to the public since 2013. “Heritage is our identity, but it is also the economy in the territories, one euro invested brings in 21”, launched the host. Mayor Valère Segal declared: “By setting foot on these steps, let us open a new chapter for Pont-Saint-Esprit.” This work of Gard heritage was able to be renovated thanks to the Heritage Mission and its Lottery. The cost of the project amounted to nearly 3 million euros (2,922,485 euros). Created in the mid-19th century, measuring 75 m long and 10 m high, it offers a unique view of the Rhône Valley and Mont Ventoux.
