A 3rd scanner and modern emergency services for more efficient care at Bagnols hospital

In line with its modernization project, the Bagnols-sur-Cèze hospital center is rolling out a major program of major construction sites. The director of the establishment Jean-Philippe Sajus and the chairman of the supervisory board and mayor of Bagnols-sur-Cèze, Jean-Yves Chapelet, presented the details of the upcoming work on Thursday, September 26, 2024.

“A hospital that stops investing is its programmed death”, declares the chairman of the supervisory board and mayor of Bagnols-sur-Cèze Jean-Yves Chapelet. The mayor joined the director of the hospital center on Thursday, September 26, 2024, for the press presentation of the upcoming projects. These aim to improve the facilities and guarantee high-quality health care.

More efficient care

The project to completely redevelop the emergency room with the creation of a new extension, for 6.40 M euro; of work, was launched to meet the growing needs of the Gard rhodanien health basin. This expansion work, already started, will be completed in May 2027. "This project will contribute to improving the quality and efficiency of care", declares the director of the hospital center, Jean-Philippe Sajus. The expansion of the emergency room, which will take place on an occupied site, will result in the addition of 700 additional square meters at the level of the access ramp to reception.

Reducing waiting times

Another significant investment, the ongoing installation of a third scanner will reduce waiting times for examinations and improve diagnostic accuracy. Already equipped with two scanners and two MRIs, notably using artificial intelligence. The total cost of the operation amounts to 800,000 euros.

Outpatient medicine

The modernization of the hospital infrastructure of Bagnols-sur-Cèze also involves three phases: the creation of seven new on-call rooms and three triple medical offices offering a better working environment for medical staff; the development of a new outpatient surgery department to meet the growing demand for less invasive surgical care; the relocation and creation of a new outpatient medicine department allowing treatments requiring regular consultations without prolonged hospitalization. The duration of this phase of the work is estimated at three months.

Training Institute

As the final structuring project, the hospital center is at the same time undertaking an expansion operation of the health professions training institute (IFMS). The objective here again is to improve the existing premises to meet the growing needs in terms of training for nursing assistants and nurses. In 2023, the IFMS in Bagnols-sur-Cèze had welcomed 53 nursing assistant students. The work is scheduled to be completed in May 2025 for a total cost of 380,000 euros.

Architectural dynamics

The Bagnols-sur-Cèze hospital employs 1,200 people, making it the largest employer in the city of Bagnols-sur-Cèze. The last 15 years have been marked by major modernization work resulting in architectural dynamics.

In office since 2018, the director of the hospital center Jean-Philippe Sajus had jumped on the bandwagon as soon as he arrived. It was necessary to complete the third phase of the hospital, which was that of consultations. The hospital was redesigned in its organization to best respond to care and facilitate, from admission to hospitalization, this care.

Avoiding saturation of services

The emergency project also consists of rethinking the configuration of the premises for professionals. “It's for confidentiality reasons” says hospital director Jean-Philippe Sajus. “It's quite difficult today to consider consultations in the corridors when we have saturated emergency rooms. Furthermore, there were no suitable premises for pediatric and pediatric emergencies."

"Go through 15"

"What about emergency regulation ?"The director of the hospital center wants to clarify: “this subject is not related to the works. Talking about regulation means imposing the passage through center 15. There are patients today who are looking for general practitioners. Before, we had a flow that arrived at the emergency room without filtering. To avoid a saturation of services, we ask users to go through center 15. It is a sustainable system.” The implementation of regulation has made it possible to reduce the number of emergency room visits from 31,000 to 28,000 in three years.

The last emergency room reconstruction operation was carried out around twenty years ago. It allowed 18,000 to 20,000 people to be admitted per year. In 2023, more than 30,000 visits were recorded. I subscribe to read more
