Bicycle parking built...under water

A 6,000-space bicycle parking lot will soon open in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and is quite unusual: it was built under water.

The place is under the waters of a pond in front of Amsterdam Central Station, the bike magazine reported Weelz. To set up these spaces, the workers had to drain the waters of the Open Havenfront.

The budget for this realization was 60 million euros (about $87 million). This underground location will allow more space on the surface for pedestrians and cyclists.

On Twitter, one of the civil engineers who worked on this project, Anton Nikitin, shared ahead- first few photos of this new, modern-looking car park.

The City of Amsterdam is due to inaugurate it at the end of January.
