London | A crane 20 metres collapsed Wednesday at a construction site and adjacent homes in the east of London, leading to one death and four injured, said the emergency services of the british capital.
“A crane of 20 meters collapsed in on an apartment building under construction and two houses,” said firefighters, who have deployed a “rescue complex”.
The emergency services were said to have counted four people injured, two were hospitalized with head injuries.
“Unfortunately, despite the efforts of our emergency services, a fifth person was found dead on the scene,” said a spokesman of the rescue services.
A union official, Jerry Swain, of the union Unite Alliance, has called for an investigation including the preliminary findings should be published “within a few weeks, rather than months or years, in order that similar accidents are prevented in the future”.
