A cyclist, 52-year-old succumbed to his injuries Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle in Longueuil.
The accident happened shortly after 19 h on the boulevard Jacques-Cartier Ouest, near the corner of the rue Sainte-Hélène. The cyclist was crossing a pedestrian crosswalk when he was hit by a Mercedes.
Transported to the hospital after suffering serious injuries, the victim was finally killed.
The driver of the vehicle, a 50 year old man, has suffered a violent nervous shock.
Neither alcohol nor speed would not be in question, according to constable Mélanie Mercille of the police Service of the urban agglomeration of Longueuil (SPAL).
Investigators and a reconstructionist has been dispatched on the spot to shed light on the circumstances of the tragedy.
The boulevard Jacques-Cartier Ouest has been closed to traffic in both directions in the area.
