A day for Damien and Patrick, two former Montpellier rugby players, for the benefit of the Cancer Institute

Patrick Chenery and Damien Monerie passed away in 2023. The Montpellier Hérault Rugby former players association is organizing a day of remembrance and for a good cause on October 5th.

“We want to honor the memory of Patrick and Damien by organizing a day that reflects who they were, in a joyful and festive way.”

The comments are from Jean-Paul Galletier, member of the association of former Montpellier rugby players. Patrick, c&amp ;rsquo;is Patrick Chenery, former English player and iconic captain of the Montpellier rugby team, MRC era. Damien is Damien Monerie, from the club's youth teams and who rose to ;in the first team. Both of them left us last year, leaving a gaping void in their loved ones.

“Damien learned of his illness in November 2022, an aggressive thyroid cancer. He knew he only had a year to live. We went to Scotland with him and did lots of things. He died in December 2023,'' explains Benoît Gally, one of his closest playing companions. “Patrick, when he was playing, had become Sabathé's favorite, confides Jean-Paul Galletier. He had had his first cancer fifteen, twenty years ago. The lymphatic system. In 2022, it started again with the liver, he died in August 2023."

Golf and pétanque

To remember their friends, on Saturday October 5, the day of the launch of Pink October, there will be a day of remembrance organized at the Pic Saint-Loup golf course in Saint-Gély-du-Fesc, whose 18 holes will be privatized for the occasion. A friendly and festive day, just like them. On the program: a golf tournament (66 euros green fee) and a pétanque competition (15 euros).

All profits will be donated that same evening to the Montpellier Cancer Institute.
