On the Miimosa site, the project entitled “A cooperative and peasant slaughtering tool in the Cévennes” is on track to raise €30,000. Eleven days remain to complete this financial support after more than six years of studies and sharing of knowledge between numerous partners from Lozère and Gard.
Supported by the Hautes Vallées Cévennes union based in Cendras, the local cooperative slaughtering structure (SLAC) is on the verge of reaching the third milestone of its participatory financing. The success of the project of a mobile felling tool, radiating across the Cévennes, is correlated with financial support having already reached 27,462 € on a total request of 30,000 €. This third stage of financing should allow the association to finance the slaughterhouse allowing the animals to be killed on the farm and then taken to the cutting and processing workshop of the cooperative. rsquo;use of agricultural equipment (Cuma) from Hauts Gardons, in Sainte-Croix-Vallée-Française.
While thirteen days remain to complete this financial support, more than six years of studies and sharing of knowledge between numerous partners from Lozère and Gard have underpinned the project in order to ensure its success. A change in European legislation has reinforced the merits of a tool responding to a triple challenge: coping with the closures of traditional slaughterhouses facing financial difficulties, avoiding the transport of live animals, a source of stress during a journey of at least one hour, and thus reduce slaughter rates causing uncomfortable conditions for slaughterhouse staff. From a more personal point of view, the tool is also a way for breeders to support their animals themselves at their final moment.
