March 31 in the South-East of Iceland from Breidamerkurjokull glacier (Breiðamerkurjökull) broke a huge array of ice. At this moment nearby there was a group of tourists taking pictures of the beautiful nature. However, they just reacted to the danger without climbing a gigantic wave, the people managed to run away to a safe distance before she reached the shore.
Experts say that such incidents pose a serious risk to people on shore and at sea. Known cases when wave after the collapse of the ice overturned the court with the tourists. However, the author of the video, the guide of the travel Agency Háfjall Stefan Mantler (Stephen Mantler) explained that tourists were instructed about actions in case of such developments, therefore, the victims managed to escape. According to him, people were excited (still do when-you can catch a giant ice wave), but not scared.
Breidamerkurjokull is part of a large jokulsarlon glacial lagoon (Jökulsárlón). He refers to lead glacier: this is a fast-moving stream of ice, lying in the rocky valleys. At the confluence of the marine basins outlet glaciers feed offshore or break up into icebergs. Earlier on the page Háfjall was posted filmed with a drone video showing the full scale of the collapse of the glacier into the sea.
Listen to the song of the glacier.
