On Place Jean Jaurès, veterans and flag bearers, representatives of the police, firefighters and many elected officials took part, this Wednesday morning, in the commemorative ceremony of May 8, 1945. Several members of the Young European Solidarity Corps, of Estonian, German, Portuguese, Italian origin, welcomed in Frontignan, spoke and expressed the duty to remember. "Let us keep the memory of the Jewish and Gypsy deportees, the first victims of the Nazi order, men, women, children sent to concentration camps. Let us be careful in this once again chaotic period where the disorders of the world threaten the peace on our doorstep. More than ever our fight is that of freedom and peace. Let us remember the sacrifices of our elders who gave their lives so that we could live in free countries. We must perpetuate traditions and live in fraternity."
The German Sophie declared, "I am particularly grateful to be able to celebrate this day of reconciliation. This state of peace must not be taken for granted and there must be a constant desire to work towards this peace." These interventions preceded the laying of wreaths at the memorial and the speech of Mayor Michel Arrouy. It can be seen that the population is becoming increasingly rare at this celebration.
