The complex nestled in the alleys of Assignan has distinguished itself in the brand new Michelin hotel rankings. It is thus one of three addresses in Hérault to have received a key, a distinction rewarding the most beautiful hotels in France.

"What is important is that they made a selection that has nothing to do with the hotel ranking usual (and its star system Editor's note). They were looking for identity, singularity, customer experience." A few days after receiving a first Michelin key for the castle and the village Castigno, in Assignan, whose gastronomic restaurant already has a star in the prestigious guide, Clément Mengus, the general director of the structure, underlines the value of this new distinction.

"From the vine to the plate, everything is coherent"

"They classified 176 establishments for France out of 130,000, among a first selection of 600 establishments. We are the only ones to have received this distinction between Montpellier and Toulouse." Like the process put in place for the gastronomic guide, no inspector was not reported during his passage. "We didn't know at all, it was a surprise 15 days ago, when we received the invitation. We were super happy because it rewards the work put in. We are a different establishment, due to our typicality, we do not fit into a classic classification… We are in a village life, with a wine tourism part. From the vine to the plate, everything is consistent."

As a reminder, the hotel has this particularity that it is deployed in several houses in this village of less than 200 souls. 24 large rooms and suites are nestled in the streets. The wine estate, which adjoins the village, houses a cellar in the shape of a lying bottle, entirely covered with cork bark. All with the backdrop of the Haut Languedoc Natural Park…

"The season is looking good"

So does this first key call for others? "It’is already a great reward and it still makes me want to continue with the notion of excellence in hospitality", replies Clément Mengus. "We want to progress and perhaps, yes, get a second key. But it remains customer satisfaction that counts. This year, we have our own vegetable garden, our own vegetables, we want to continue to progress…"

The Castigno village reopened on March 23 after the winter break. "The season is looking good. Customers from the south of France, from Toulouse to Avignon, constitute our regular clientele, plus international ones until the summer." Will this Michelin distinction change the establishment's offering ? "No, there will be no change in price, there is no reason. We offer great services but with super accessible prices!"
