In the vineyards by bike

#SAINT-CHINIAN.The Hérault Department inaugurated its first wine-novel circuit on Friday. The 73-kilometer loop, whose route goes to the Canal du Midi in Colombier, combines a bike ride with stops at wine cellars to taste local wines and meet winemakers. The circuit, to be completed in one or more stages, is easy, with little elevation gain, and can be done in six hours. Another wine-novel circuit, this time 42 kilometers long, should open in early 2025 from Gignac.

A new Miss Roussillon

#LE BARCARÈS. Cassiopée Rimbaud, 21, was crowned Miss Roussillon on Saturday evening in the Lydia gardens among twelve contenders for the title. The young woman, 1.71 m tall, from Laroque-des-Albères, succeeds Elise Aquilina who passed on her crown to her alongside the current Miss France, Eve Gilles. In her third year of studies as a special education teacher, Cassiopée Rimbaud aims to look after adults with disabilities and the elderly. She will be the representative of Roussillon in the Miss France 2025 election, just like the future Miss Languedoc. The competition in Beaucaire was postponed to August 10, Friday, due to violent storms that hit in the evening.

Who to operate the Rodez-Paris line ?

#AVEYRON. The Spanish airline Volotea, specializing in low-cost flights across Europe and present in all the major airports in France, has applied to operate the Rodez-Paris route. The Amelia company, which currently operates the route until August 19, is also a candidate. The call for tenders for the 2024-2028 period, launched in January, runs until August 11. The decision of the Aveyron Department should be known quickly. The line, classified as a regional planning route, is financed by public authorities. The State covers 55% of the total amount of the bill for the four years, with the other communities (Department, Region and Agglo of Rodez) sharing the remaining 45%. In 2020, the cost amounted to 9.6 million euros. In the meantime, no tickets are available after August 19 for users and companies, the vast majority of whom use the line.

Today's figure: 30

#SÈTE. In percentage, the proportion of oyster and mussel shells used in the "recipe" for the surfacing of a section of the cycle path of the Peyrade canal in Sète. To this must be added 60% sand and 10% low-carbon cement. Local and more ecological, this material allows the Hérault Department to continue to ban the use of chemical phytosanitary products from its green spaces and walking areas.

Holidaymakers made aware of fire risks

#GARD. This Sunday, guards from the National Forestry Office, gendarmes and agents from the National Biodiversity Office patrolled together at the Sautadet waterfalls in La Roque-sur-Cèze. The aim was to remind people of the rules to follow, particularly regarding fires, while the forests are under surveillance. Repeating the prohibitions, warning again about the risks, but also issuing fines if necessary, were part of the messages sent to holidaymakers. “90% of fires are of human origin, recalls Carole Troy (DDTM). Today, the risk is moderate. But the wind is blowing. The temperature is high. The trees and grass are dry. We must not relax the pressure.”
