A nice vintage is coming at the Clermont cooperative cellar

The harvest has begun for the 131 Clermont cooperative members. The vintage looks set to be nice and the yields are there.
No hail or late frosts this year, no severe drought either. For once, it was the precipitation that had to be managed this year. A lesser evil for the local winegrowers. “In June, the growing season was complicated. We had to hold on to get grapes without disease. But we succeeded. The harvest is rather nice, on the vine. Saturday, we will only be at a third of the harvest, but the vintage should be very nice”, diagnoses Yann Jeannin, the new director of the Clermont cooperative winery.
A sharp increase in white production
This Tuesday evening, the managers of the cellar received a visit from Gérard Bessière, Mayor of the City, who came, as he does every year, to both take the pulse of the Clermont grape harvest and assure the farmers of his support. And, in front of the cellar of the Clermontaise cellar, the morale of the troops seemed rather good. Despite some “coulures” linked to the precipitation, the yields should be there, especially for the white. “This is what sells the best, this year, we are doing almost a third more than other years.” Hoping that the trend, which is general, does not saturate the markets.
Significant differences in exposure between the lower Clermontais and the reliefs of the Grand Site
On the Reds side, “we have brought in the early grape varieties but we have not finished because we have almost a week of difference (in maturity) between the tenements of the lower Clermontais and those of Liausson, Mourèze… There are really significant exposure gaps.” In the sector, for the 131 cooperators of the vintage, the harvest should be completed around September 20, depending on the weather conditions. And the rains forecast for this weekend should lead to some last-minute adaptations.
