A Palestinian was killed Monday morning by Israeli army fire in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian Health Ministry reported. 

“Jibril Mohammed Kamal al-Laada, 17, was shot in the head and six others were injured, three of them seriously,” the ministry said in a statement.

This incident occurred took place in Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, near Jericho in the occupied West Bank, according to the Israeli army.

“During an operation in Aqabat Jaber, armed suspects fired at soldiers who returned fire with live ammunition,” the army said in a statement, adding that one person had been hit.

The army announced that it had arrested 17 suspects in “counter-terrorist” operations in the West Bank in the night from Sunday to Monday, including three in Aqabat Jaber.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has seen a wave of increased violence since January.

The death of this Palestinian brings to 101 the number of Palestinians killed since the beginning of the year. Nineteen Israelis, one Ukrainian and one Italian were killed during the same period, according to an AFP tally compiled from official Israeli and Palestinian sources.

These statistics include, on the Palestinian side , combatants and civilians including minors, and on the Israeli side, mostly civilians including minors, and three members of the Arab minority.
