A police officer in New York was suspended on Sunday after a video published online shows him doing a choke on a Black.
This outlet called “chokehold” in English is, however, prohibited by the police Department of New York in 1993.
“After a quick survey of the Office of internal affairs, a police officer involved in an incident troubling that occurred in Queens was suspended without pay”, said on Sunday the commissioner of the New York police department Dermot Shea in a tweet.
“While a thorough investigation is still ongoing, there is no doubt in my mind that this immediate action is necessary,” he added.
The video released online showed many police officers who held the man in the stomach during his arrest.
One of the police officers seemed to have his arms wrapped around the neck of the man, according to the pictures that have been widely circulated.
The man was hospitalized Sunday evening, reported NBC New york, but his life would be in danger.
