A scientific conference in Marcoule to discover a technology allowing paraplegics to walk again
As part of its free general public scientific conferences, on Marcoule Thursdays, the CEA Marcoule invites Guillaume Charvet, head of the biomedical research department in neurotechnology within the CEA Leti Clinatec in Grenoble. The mission of this service is to develop and evaluate innovative medical devices.
The scientist will talk about the technology developed at Clinatec which last May allowed a paraplegic person to walk again by controlling his legs by thought, thanks to a simulator implanted in his spinal cord.< /p>
This unique chronic brain-machine interface technology is based on the Wimagine® which is implantable and allows wireless recording of brain activity associated with algorithms for real-time decoding of neuronal activity.
Thanks to this device, in 2019, a quadriplegic patient was able to control an exoskeleton based on the measurement and decoding of his brain activity. .
This innovation won an award at the Consumer Electronics Show 2024 in Las Vegas.
Conference "Brain-machine interface: compensating for motor disability", Thursday March 21 at 6 p.m., doors opening at 5:30 p.m. In the auditorium of the & #39;ICSM, at the entrance to Marcoule. Free upon reservation: communication-marcoule@cea.fr
