Typically sea turtles are returning to continue their family where they were born. They find the place of his birth by the magnetic field of the earth and lay their eggs there. Of course, for this to happen, should coincide many factors. Any accident jeopardizes reproduction and survival of these animals, no wonder all kinds of sea turtles listed in the Red book.
Recently one such turtle returned to the island Maafaru, which is located in the Northern part of the Maldives. However, instead of the usual clean beach waiting for her smooth asphalt runway: last year on the Atoll Noone which includes the island, opened an international airport which was supposed to be the “gateway to the world of ultra-luxury tourism.”
Despite the obstacle in the form of a new airport, turtle listened to my instinct and made the eggs directly on the runway. After that, the locals made sure that she was all right, and released sea dweller back into the ocean. What will happen to the eggs then, not yet reported.
“Despite the construction of the airport, the turtles still frequent the island for procreation,” said a source from the Council to Maafaru. However, the incident underlines the devastating consequences of destruction of habitat for many unique species of flora and fauna. It should be noted that depositing of the egg the tortoise refers to endangered species of marine green turtles (lat. Chelonia mydas).
